Lower Grange Farm was originally purchased in July 2009 as an agricultural complex comprising a traditional Kentish Barn, stable blocks and almost 4 acres of land.
Since then Kent Scouts has worked on an ambitious multi-million pound project to convert the site into a leading activity centre for young people.
A brief history
of Kent Scouts ownership of Lower Grange Farm
2009
Kent Scouts purchases Lower Grange Farm as an agricultural complex comprising a traditional Kentish Barn, stable blocks and almost 4 acres of land.
Many work parties follow to clear the land to prepare for use.
2010
White cottage is converted for centre staff.
Adventurer and Chief Scout, Bear Grylls visits the site.
2011
The County Office and Conference Room on site were completed.
2012
Stables are converted into the 4 and 8 bed bunk rooms.
Work starts on the climbing centre (now known as Climb Kent)
2014
The Climbing Centre was opened by mountaineer Kenton Cool.
2015
The professional catering kitchen is opened.
2016
Volunteers complete the construction of the archery range
2017
The site gains the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) award.
2018
Work starts to convert the remaining stable blocks into meeting rooms.
Our tented village hosts the first large school residentials.
2019
Kent Scouts purchase a further 28 acres of land to ensure the facility has the scope to grow in the future and allow for bigger events.
2024
The water activities lake is opened at Lower Grange Farm.
The courtyard gets an amazing transformation with new compass floor.
2025
The climbing centre is rebranded 'Climb Kent'.
Solar panels and batteries are installed.
2026

Lower Grange Farm was purchased with the aim of creating a leading sustainable activity centre for young people in Kent. Right from the start young people were involved in its development and have played an active role, particularly in the creation of the purpose built climbing centre.
